Our advice: Accept that you will not be able to see most of the works and focus on the most important works, the masterpieces you want to see as soon as possible. Already inside there are maps that tell you which work is on which floor and in which numbered room, be sure to take one of these brochures. Of course, while visiting these works, we recommend that you take a quick look at the others and take photos, because they are all very beautiful. We quickly saw and photographed almost all the artefacts in 3 hours. We will tell you all the details.
In this blog post, you will find all the details about the questions you ask us the most, from buying online tickets to enter the Louvre to visiting hours, how to enter the museum without waiting in line, the masterpieces you must see, time-saving information and various tips. So how best to visit the Louvre Museum from a tourist’s point of view? learn with us 👍 Let’s get started …
Where is the Louvre Museum?
The Louvre Museum is located in Paris, the capital of France, on the banks of the Seine River.
Address: Rue de Rivoli, 75001 Paris, France
How much is the entrance fee to the Louvre Museum?
How to Buy a Ticket to the Louvre Museum?
Buy Ticket Online
Entrance to the museum is paid. However, on some special days, there are discounted prices or free entry. You can also enter the garden, the famous glass pyramid, for free.
In 2024, the current entrance fees to the Louvre Museum are as follows:
Online Standard Ticket: 17 Euro
Standard Ticket at the Box Office: 15 Euro
Visitors under 18 years old: Free of charge
EU citizen visitors under 26 years of age: Free of charge (first Sundays of each month)
14 July is Bastille Day: Free for everyone.
Guided Tours: Prices vary according to the type of tour.
Those who will enter for free should reserve their tickets online in advance.
We Strongly Discourage!
We never recommend buying the ticket from the box office. Why is that?
Yes. If you buy it online it is 17 Euro, if you buy it from the box office it is 15 Euro. But don’t be mistaken for 2 Euros and leave your ticket to the box office. Firstly, there will be a queue at the box office where you will wait for hours, secondly, you will not find a ticket and you will be left in the open. All the time you have waited will be wasted and you will not be able to see the museum. Of course, if you have plenty of time, if you have devoted the whole holiday to visiting museums or if you live in Paris, you can try 🙂 For us Time = Cash 😉
We added the ticket we bought here.
We Strongly Recommend!
Always buy your ticket online. Even before you go to Paris, determine the day you will visit the museum and buy tickets for that day. That’s what we did, when you plan before you go, you know where you will visit on which day, you know how many hours you allocate, so you can see and visit many places in a short time. Believe us, you feel very comfortable. Onur had created an excel table and it was clear what we were going to do on the whole holiday, tickets for all of them were bought in advance, this is a great comfort 🥰
Tickets purchased online have timed entry. In other words, you should be at the museum at that time. If you are late, half an hour can be tolerated, but we say don’t be late 🙂
You can get your online ticket here immediately. Whether it is just an entrance ticket without waiting in line, or an audio guide, or a guided tour, or a guided tour, or package tours combined with the Louvre Museum, etc… you will find them all together.
Louvre Entrance Tickets We Recommend to You
Paris: Louvre Museum Entrance Ticket and Seine River Cruise are available in many options.
We wanted to do the Seine River Tour. Because; When you come to Paris, you can never return without doing two things. One is to visit the Lovre Museum and the other is to take a Seine River Tour…
Therefore; we preferred the package that included a river tour.
Good Advice!
We left the river tour to the evening, as we travelled almost all of Paris on foot, especially during the day. Good thing; we did so. The Seine River Cruise in Paris is so spectacular in the evening that words are not enough to describe it. The sparkling Eiffel view, those magnificent architectural structures, the people on the shore waving to you 🙂 everything is so beautiful… And if you have the person you love with you, it is a very romantic night ❤️
You can quickly access and purchase all tickets here, whether with or without dinner, evening or daytime, it is up to you.

- 1 May
- 25 December
On these days the museum will be closed to visitors. It is always a good idea to check the days you plan to visit and get updated information from the official website.
How long does it take to visit the Louvre Museum?
It is said that if you spend 1 minute in front of each work in the exhibition, it would take about 64 days to visit the entire museum… 😄since no one will have such a time, it may take several days to visit the museum in detail. However, an average 3-4 hour tour can be planned for visitors who want to see the most important works.
We bought our ticket online, with time reservation for 15:00 and since we went on Monday, it was open until 18:00. 3 hours was very good, it was enough. This 3-hour time period gave us the opportunity to visit almost the whole museum in a good way, we recommend it to everyone.

How to get to the Louvre Museum? Which Metro Stop is the Louvre Museum at?
The Louvre Museum is easily accessible by public transport options in Paris (metro, rer, bus). If you want to go by metro, line 1; Palais Royal – Musée du Louvre is the nearest stop. You can get off at this stop and reach this temple of art in a few steps.
We preferred to go on foot from our hotel located near the Arc de Triomphe. 👫 If your hotel is also close, we highly recommend it. ‘The best way to get to know and visit a city is to walk the streets of that city.’ Our motto 🙂
The bus lines to the Louvre Museum are as follows:
Bus Lines:
- Bus number 21
- Bus number 27
- Bus number 39
- Bus number 67
You can easily reach the museum by getting off at the ‘Palais Royal – Musée du Louvre’ stop with these buses. If you don’t want to deal with any of them, you can also access the museum by Uber or Taxi.
The entrance is located at 99 Rue Rivoli. All the preparations for entering the museum are complete, you have bought the ticket in advance, you have arrived in front of the museum. But where will you enter?
Which door to enter the Louvre Museum?
There are several doors to enter the Louvre Museum, but most people, especially tourists, do not know this, so; the most popular entrance is the Pyramid Entrance. But; there are 3 more doors you can use instead of this entrance. Via the Carousel du Louvre, Via the Passage Richelieu and Porte des Lions…
Entrance Doors
Pyramid Entrance (Pyramide)
- It is the most popular and main entrance. Expect to wait between 1 and 4 hours.
- Those who want to buy tickets from the box office should use this entrance.
- It is the most used glass pyramid entrance where long queues are formed.
- Through the pyramid, you can go down to the underground lobby of the museum. Cloakroom, bag locker, box office, toilet etc. are here, but there is no need to descend from this door for these, you can connect here from whichever door you enter.
- If you are going to enter through this door, you need to know the 4 different coloured lines, if you enter wrong, you will lose time.
The yellow line is for visitors with special passes such as annual visitor passes or tourist passes.
The orange queue is for visitors without a pre-purchased ticket.
The green line is for visitors with a ticket with a specific time slot purchased online.
Blue queue for disabled visitors, pregnant women, visitors with prams.
Carrousel du Louvre Entrance (Shopping Centre Entrance)
- It provides access from the shopping centre area.
- This entrance is also well used, but usually not as busy as the Pyramid Entrance.
- The fastest entrance for those who do not come with a tour.
- We preferred this entrance. We realised that we did very well when we entered almost without waiting in line 😌actually, when we first went, the entrance was empty, there was still half an hour before our entrance time written on the ticket and the lady in charge told us to come at the ticket time. In the meantime, we went after lingering in the mall and when we came back, the queue started to form, we waited in line for 15 minutes and we went in immediately. The benefits of buying online tickets 🙂
- Also; Since eating and drinking inside the Louvre will be very expensive, you can fulfil your needs in the restaurants here.
Porte des Lions: (Lion Gate)
- It is generally known as a lesser known and hidden entrance of the Louvre Museum.
- It is one of the doors with the shortest queues, as it is slightly backwards, but it is temporarily out of service. It is the closest entrance to the Mona Lisa, but as far as we know, this door is usually closed to visitors and can only be used for special events or specific occasions.
Passage Richelieu:(Group Gate)
This door is for groups larger than 7 people. Technically, if you are not travelling with a tour, you can come and try your luck here if the other queues seem too long to your eyes. Sometimes there were two people who wanted to pass through, but we cannot guarantee 🙂
Quick Entry Tips to the Louvre Museum
To enter without waiting in line;
- Buy Ticket Online: Buying tickets in advance ensures that you do not wait in long queues at the entrance.
- Go Early or Late: Going before the museum opens helps you avoid the crowds. Or, on the contrary, since the tours come in the morning-afternoon hours, going in the afternoon will give you an advantage.
- Do not prefer the Pyramid Entrance: This is the most frequently used entrance with the longest queues.
- Prefer Carrousel du Louvre Entrance: This gate, which provides access to the shopping centre area, is much quieter than the pyramid gate.
- Louvre Museum Entrance Passes (Paris Museum Pass): If you have plenty of time and have plenty of time to visit museums; By purchasing this card, you can enter not only the Louvre but also many other museums without waiting in line. The card offers a few days of use.
